What's a Neighborhood Council?
A neighborhood council is an organized group of stakeholders in the
community (residents - both renters and owners, businesspeople, employees,
students and other individuals with direct ties to the area) that serves
as an advisory to the city. As representatives of the community, the
neighborhood council allows both the community and city to be informed of
its issues and needs, and ultimately creates a better sense of community
and improves the quality of life in the area. Neighborhood councils also
can receive up to $50,000 a year from the City of Los Angeles for
community improvements, projects and expenses. The City of Los Angeles has a system
of over 80 certified neighborhood councils.
Stakeholders
The EHNC defines a "stakeholder" in its community as a person who:
- Lives...
- Works...
- Owns Property...
- Attends School...
- Is a Member of a Faith Organization...
- Is a staff or board member of a community-based `non-profit organization that provides
services...
...in East Hollywood.
The EHNC - Your Neighborhood Council
The East Hollywood Neighborhood Council, formed in March 2002 and certified as
an official neighborhood council on April 19, 2007, is the neighborhood
council for the
diverse, dynamic and unique community of East Hollywood. It is home to Los
Angeles' designated Thai Town and Little Armenia neighborhoods, as well as large
numbers of other immigrant groups such as Mexicans, El Salvadorans,
Guatemalans, Filipinos, Koreans, South Americans, Ukrainians, Russians and
many more. This community also comprises of a youthful community where 64%
of its residents are under the age of 40, as well as a heavy renter population of
88%.
Boundaries
The EHNC's boundaries are
Hollywood and Sunset boulevards to the north, Hoover St to the east,
The Hollywood (101) Freeway to the south and Western Ave to the west. |

Outreach
The EHNC strives to outreach to all of its stakeholders, adult, senior or
youth, citizen, legal or undocumented. We all share the same issues and
concerns in our community and the only way to improve the neighborhood is
to do it together! We reach out to neighborhood watches/block clubs,
nonprofits, homes, apartments, schools, houses of
worship, hospitals and businesses alike. In addition, we are present at
prominent events in the community.
