HNN-TV To Present Media Exposure for Community Issues

Kingsley Manor The next monthly meeting of the East Hollywood Neighborhood Council will be on Monday, November 16, 7 p.m. at Kingsley Manor Retirement Community, 1055 Kingsley Dr (at Santa Monica Blvd). Click here for map of location.

The meeting will be at the Council Room on the 4th Floor.

This month, we will feature HNN-TV, who will make a presentation on what they are doing and how they can help communities get media exposure for issues affecting their neighborhoods.

We will also have reports from our LAPD Senior Lead Officers, as well as our representative from Council President Eric Garcetti's district office, plus a meeting of the EHNC's Governing Board, where important decisions regarding our neighborhood will be made. Community stakeholders will also have the chance to make announcements on upcoming events or voice their opinions on important issues in the neighborhood.

The EHNC meets on the third Monday of each month.

Visit our EHNC Monthly Meeting Website to download the meeting agenda and to get more information on the meeting.

Stakeholders Asked To Express Their Concerns, Vision For Neighborhood

Imagine East Hollywood The East Hollywood Neighborhood Council has undertaken perhaps the most ambitious community outreach and envisioning project ever attempted by a Los Angeles Neighborhood Council. The "Imagine East Hollywood" project will attempt to gather individual responses from a wide range of East Hollywood stakeholders about what they would like to see as the future of East Hollywood, and in doing so will bridge the gap between the neighborhood council and the community it represents.

The responses will be collected through a variety of media, including video and audio interviews, essays, poems, stories, illustrations; Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, just to name a few. Cindy Marie Jenkins, the director for the project, explains that "We are really trying to reach out to all the different demographics in as many different ways we can. The more we collect, the better." The final collection of responses will be displayed at the Barnsdall Art Park/Gallery Fluxus exhibit from February through April, 2010.
Cindy further comments that "Residents are ecstatic about the fact that they're being asked. When they do bring up issues, they are then asked to help figure out solutions. It's not venting, it's trying to figure out how we can solve problems and bring cultural groups together."

Jennifer Moran, a board member of the EHNC, explains how the project helps her to be a better representative, "I usually only interact with Neighborhood Council people, people involved in committees. These people are off the streets. This provides an opportunity to really listen to people. It seems like an excellent way to make the role of a Neighborhood Council member truly relevant, rather than just being part of a board that doesn't have a lot of first hand knowledge about what the man or woman on the street thinks."

The EHNC President, David Bell, has already seen strong excitement generated from volunteers about the project, even in its early stages. "We are already getting a lot of insight and involvement from the community that we wouldn't have had. It's a way to get the people who live in the community involved in creating their own community. Its potential is unlimited."

But that potential depends on how many people actually participate in the project. If you can find a way to participate, you can have a hand in the future of East Hollywood.

To participate, contact Cindy Marie Jenkins at 323.552.3333, ImagineEastHwood@gmail.com, or visit the website at www.easthollywood.net/imagine.
